Comunque, meglio probabilmente no, però la lotta per il secondo posto è agguerrita: di pancia ti direi che se la battono seriamente la finale del G1, Cole/MJF di Londra, Omega/Ospreay 2 e uno dei due Page/Swerve.

Ci sta, io amato enormemente il lavorone nel portare la storia in ogni singola mossa del match, con quel Cole sempre più cattivo e duro.

Tra le chicche che so essere piaciute solo a me metto il match a 4 tra MJF, Jungle Boy, Guevara e Allin, Alexander/Ray di inizio anno a Impact e Kane/Mack in MLW.

Ospreay è stato protagonista di alcuni dei migliori incontri dell’anno: con Omega, ma anche con Naito e Tsuji.

La semifinale del G1 Climax con Naito veramente impressionante.

Fra le stelle emergenti, Strickland è cresciuto molto.
Mi aspetto un 2024 importante.

Il worst magari lo faccio dopo.


Volevo fare una considerazione generale riguardante i match tra WWE e AEW: dopo un bel po' di anni in cui nel panorama major nordamericano, tranne qualcosa a NXT, finalmente nel 2023 a mio parere sono tornati i matchoni, quelli che ti rimangono impressi anche i giorni successivi.
Mie personali menzioni particolari: Gunther-Sheamus-McIntyre, MJF-Danielson, Ospreay-Omega 2, Reigns-Zayn, Charlotte-Ripley, Reigns-Cody (sì, al di là del finale, per me l'atmosfera creatasi era da autentico main event di WM), Usos-Zayn&Owens, MJF-Cole (All In), FTR-Bullet Club Gold (2 Out of 3 Falls), Page-Swerve (Texas Death, forse il mio personale match preferito dell'anno).
Probabilmente anche NXT e Impact ne contano diversi, ma non seguendoli non posso dire.
Insomma, non pochi.

Credo che i candidati più sensati sarebbero MJF e Sami Zayn, però bho, pure a loro manca qualcosa.

Wrestler of the year: Gunther
Pochissimi wrestler non hanno sbagliato un colpo in tutto il 2023, e tra questi il più importante nell'economia dello show é Gunther, ha affrontato gli avversari più diversi riuscendo a produrre sempre match più che godibili. Plauso anche alla WWE che gli ha cucito addosso un ruolo che lo esalta, poi però sul ring ci ha messo tutto del suo.
Tag Team of the year: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Stint aperto e chiuso vicino al dieci e lode con dei MOTY contenders con Usos e Judgment Day, nel mezzo qualcosa un po' si é perso tra piccoli infortuni e una scrittura che si é sentita un po' arrivata.
Match of the year: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn Vs. The Judgment Day - Payback 2023
Per me questo match é proprio la definizione del wrestling made in WWE, divertimento spensierato ma dignitoso, tanto overbooking, tanta confusione e tante emozioni.
Feud of the year: Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn Vs. The Bloodline
Nella macrostoria della Bloodline con i suoi saliscendi, questa parentesi é stata perfetta: storia coerente, momenti memorabili e una conclusione appagante dentro e fuori dal ring. Se solo si potesse dire altrettanto della rivolta degli Usos...
Face of the year: Cody Rhodes
Non c'é un cazzo da fare, può essere piaciuto, può non essere piaciuto, ma oggi Cody Rhodes é il top face della WWE, contando le assenze prolungate di Reigns si può pure dire che sia il volto a tutto tondo della federazione. E' così corny che riesce sempre a fare il giro e farti godere. LA Knight a tanto così, but not quite there...
Heel of the year: Gunther
Tutto quello che ho scritto sopra, con l'aggiunta che é riuscito a far funzionare The Miz da face.
Most improved wrestler of the year: Tiffany Stratton
Stando al main roster avrei detto Jey Uso che in realtà é sempre stato un ottimo worker (e deve ancora migliorare come talker), o Dominik Mysterio che però vive ancora tanto di riflesso del ruolo che gli é stato ben scritto, come performer in toto però Tiffy é diventata un progetto di stella in tempi relativemente brevi con potenzialità ben superiori a quelle degli altri due.
Best female: Becky Lynch
Un po' vago 'sto Award, Rhea sicuramente oggi é il volto del wrestling femminile in WWE, ciò detto il suo regno é stato tanto sotto le aspettative sia sul ring che fuori, quindi premio Becky che al netto di una scrittura spesso sfavorevole (il feud con Trish é stato un supplizio) sul ring ha più che compensato in qualsiasi circostanza.
Best in-ring performer: Sami Zayn
Gunther lo abbiamo premiato abbastanza, e in una lista di MOTY contenders il nome di Zayn spunta ovunque.
Best on mic: The Miz
Vabbé piscia ancora una volta tutti, che sia sul ring con Snopp Dogg o con Gunther.
Best gimmick: Grayson Waller
Personaggio divertentissimo, una faccia da schiaffi da far invidia ai migliori film di serie Z nostrani.

E' bello poter premiare l'evento clou della stagione di wrestling come il migliore dell'anno, ed obbiettivamente Wrestlemania tra le due nottate ha regalato tanto divertimento e diversi classici.
Comeback of the year: Chelsea Green
Oh, nessuno ne parla, ma si può dire che il lavoro che sta facendo con i titoli femminili tag (che sono tipo i più inutili della federazione) é oro? Non ci davo due lire, e mi dispiace per la Deville che come spalla ha più carisma di Piper Niven, ma i suoi segmenti e tutto il personaggio svampito mi divertono molto.

L'apice della storyline della Bloodline prima del disastro ferroviario di Summerslam, ma questo era il momento a cui puntava tutta la storyline e non ha deluso neanche un po'.
Moment/segment of the year: Sami Zayn smashes Roman Reigns with a steel chair - Royal Rumble
Se la rivolta degli Usos col loro overacting al microfono funzionava per quello che doveva fare, questo segmento invece ha proprio una solennità diversa, ed la risposta a chi pensa che da un carrozzone circense qual é il wrestling non si possa ritrovare una certa dignità.
Shocking moment of the year: CM Punk IS BACK! - Survivor Series
Oh io ero tra quelli che era certo sarebbe successo (ho vacillato solo nei secondi tra la comparsa del logo di chiusura e l'attacco iniziale della theme), e alla fine non ho manco capito se l'opinione comune fosse che sarebbe successo o meno. Però cazzo quando poi sei lì alle cinque di notte e vedi 'sta roba, i ragionamenti, la logica, é stato tutto a zero.
